Kim Hyung-ho arrived in China from the Republic of Korea on Aug 24, 1992, which happened to be the same day that the two countries officially established diplomatic relations. Kim, just 19 at the time, came to China to study traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), a medical system with thousands of years of history and which enjoys popularity in many countries.
Kim's passion for TCM took root in his teenage years after he had a twisted ankle treated with acupuncture. “It's incredible that a little needle can have such magical powers. That experience inspired me to learn authentic TCM in the place from which it originated,” recalls Kim.
In 2013, he was hired as a TCM specialist by the international clinic of Qingdao Municipal Hospital. “Doctor Kim is professional, hardworking and nice,” says Sun Jie, director of the clinic. “He also helps bridge the communication gap between our staff and Korean patients.” For those who have difficulty moving around, Kim will go to the patient's home to offer treatment.
Apart from his daily work, Kim has also volunteered to provide free medical consultations in the countryside. He found that many rural people have been suffering from long time diseases such as high blood pressure, but are not aware of their conditions, let alone attend regular checkups. As a result, Kim led fellow volunteers to collect lists of people from different villages. The lists were handed to local authorities to keep track of the patients' treatment. Kim also provided guidance for village doctors, which helped improve the standard of treatment in the area.
Three decades have passed since Kim set foot in China, and he's very grateful for what he has gained in the country. “Medicine does not have boundaries. As a TCM doctor, I will continue to communicate with doctors in Korea and other countries to help it spread and flourish even further, so that more people can understand its excellence,” says Kim.
24. When did Kim become interested in TCM?
A. He learned the long history of TCM.
B. China and Korea had a close relationship.
C. He was treated with TCM when he was young.
D. Chinese medicine enjoyed great popularity in Korea.
25. What can we infer from the working experience of Kim?
A. Korean patients are specially treated.
B. Some rural patients will be tracked by volunteers.
C. A blind patient may get a home treatment by Kim.
D. High blood pressure patients will be completely cured.
26. What does the underlined word “flourish” in the last paragraph mean'?
A. Crash. B. Develop. C. Remain. D. Increase.
27. What is the purpose of this text?
A. To express patients' demand. B. To recommend TCM treatment.
C. To explain a medical phenomenon. D. To introduce an international doctor.

Drinking your daily cup of coffee may help to lower your risk of stroke(中風) and heart disease, according to a latest research. Researchers at the Heart and Vascular Centre, Budapest, Hungary have found that drinking up to three cups of coffee a day may help protect your cardiovascular(心血管的) system.
The team studied data from nearly 500,000 people registered in the UK Biobank with an average age of 56 and no signs of heart disease at the time of recruitment. They divided them into three categories according to their coffee drinking habits: non-drinkers, up to three-cup-a-day drinkers, and more than three-cup-a-day drinkers.
Considering influencing factors such as age, sex, weight height, physical activity, blood pressure, diabetes, socioeconomic status, and usual intake of alcohol, meat, tea, fruit and vegetables, they found that three-cup-a-day drinkers had a 12 per cent lower risk of death from all causes, a 17 per cent lower risk of death from cardiovascular disease, and a 21 per cent lower risk of stroke.
“To our knowledge, this is the largest study to systematically assess the cardiovascular effects of regular coffee consumption in a population without diagnosed heart disease,” said study author Dr Judit Simon.
To further investigate the effect, the researchers used data from more than 30,000 participants in the UK Biobank who had undergone MRI(核磁共振成像) scans to determine the structure and functioning capacity of their hearts.
Dr Judit Simon said, “The imaging analysis indicated that compared with participants who did not drink coffee regularly, daily coffee consumers had healthier sized and better functioning hearts. Our findings suggest that coffee consumption of up to three cups per day is associated with favourable cardiovascular outcomes. While further studies are needed to explain the underlying mechanisms, the observed benefits might be partly explained by positive changes in cardiac structure and function.”
28. What is the latest research mainly about?
A. The risk of heart disease. B. The ways to avoid stroke.
C. The cups of drinking coffee. D. The benefits of drinking coffee.
29. Why does the author mention the influencing factors in paragraph 3?
A. To show the difficulty of the research. B. To show the reliability of the findings.
C. To introduce the process of the research. D. To introduce the limitation of the findings.
30. What do the two data analyses have in common?
A. They find coffee's positive effects on people.
B. They focus on negative changes in people's hearts.
C. They oppose coffee consumption.
D. They have been accepted widely.
31. What attitude does Dr Judit Simon have to drinking coffee?
A. Carefree. B. Skeptical. C. Favourable. D. Tolerant.
D
A selection of wildlife sculptures made out of recycled rubbish is being displayed at an exhibition at the Harley Gallery in Glasgow, England. The sculptures have been created by Glasgow--based artist Michelle Reader, who has been working with recycled materials for over 20 years. The inspiration behind this collection of artwork was the increase in fly-tipping during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021. Fly-tipping is when people illegally dump rubbish or litter in a public place.
Reader told the BBC, “Glasgow Wildlife Trust showed me some of the materials that were found on their reserves—a washing machine, rusty bike frame, car tyres.” She decided to create wildlife sculptures out of these materials to encourage people to think about the damage fly-tipping can do to the environment and wildlife. Her three-dimensional artworks included recycled items such as skis, a gas mask, and washing machine parts.
Reader often drew inspiration from the “beauty of the natural world,” and said that the large model of the white-tailed bee was inspired by the many hours she spent on her distribution during the pandemic. Another sculpture, a bearded eagle, was inspired by the sighting of one such bird in the Peak District in July 2020. This was only the second time it had been spotted in the UK.
Other projects Reader has been involved with have highlighted issues such as the importance of recycling and reducing food waste. In April, the National Space Centre in Leicester, England, launched their Home Planet gallery, which featured an art installation from Reader. Using rubbish found in rivers, such as plastic bottles, tennis balls, footwear, and toys, Reader created a large wave sculpture to highlight the problem of littering.
Reader says that through her sculptures she draws attention to environmental issues in an attractive and humorous way. The exhibition is on at Harley Callery in Glasgow, England, until 24 July.
32. What inspired the exhibition at the Harley Gallery?
A. Recycled materials. B. The Covid-19 pandemic.
C. Wildlife sculptures. D. The increasing fly-tipping.
33. Why does Reader create the wildlife sculptures?
A. To be environmentally-friendly. B. To protect wildlife animals.
C. To love the sculpture art. D. To improve creative ability.
34. Where does this passage probably come from?
A. A family survey. B. A health magazine.
C. An environmental magazine. D. A science guide.
35. What may be the best title for the passage?
A. Look at the art from another angle.
B. Explore the artistic talents in your life.
C. Wildlife sculptures made from rubbish.
D. A new way to live a sustainable life.

第二節(jié) 讀后續(xù)寫(滿分25分)
閱讀下面材料,根據其內容和所給段落開頭語續(xù)寫兩段,使之構成一篇完整的短文。
I remember one Thanksgiving when our family had no money and no food, and someone came with a huge box of food, a giant turkey and even some pans to cook it in. I couldn't believe it.
The stranger said to my father, “I'm here because a friend of yours knows you're in need and that you wouldn't accept direct help, so I've brought this for you. Have a great Thanksgiving.”
Obviously that experience had a profound impact on my life. I promised myself that someday I would do the same thing for other people. By the time I was eighteen I had created my Thanksgiving ritual(儀式). I did part-time jobs, so I would earn money and buy enough food for one or two families. Then I would dress like a delivery boy, go to the poorest neighborhood and just knock on a door. I always included a note that explained my Thanksgiving experience as a kid. The note concluded, “All that I ask in return is that you take good enough care of yourself so that someday you can do the same thing for someone else.” I have received more from this annual ritual than I have from any amount of money I've ever earned.
Two years ago my business partners and I were stuck in New York City during Thanksgiving. When I told them what I always did on Thanksgiving, they got interested. “Let's go to Harlem (the poorest area in New York) and feed some people in need. That's what Thanksgiving really is: Giving good thanks, not just eating turkey.” I said.
Everyone got excited about being the delivery people and couldn't wait to knock at some doors in Harlem. However, when we called the rent-a-car places, we were told that they were all out of vans.
注意:
1.續(xù)寫詞數應為150字左右。

讀后續(xù)寫:
Paragraph 1
Looking at the vans running on the streets, I believed there must be one available. Thus, we decided to go out to find a van that could be helpful for our idea. It happened that a van was waiting outside a store and the driver was busy unloading. I greeted him with a smile and told him my Thanksgiving ritual and our plan. Handing him 100 dollars, I asked him if he could work together with us to carry food to Harlem.
Paragraph 2
The driver refused the money we offered and was willing to take us. Having filled the van with full load of food, we left for Harlem, dressed like delivery men. Two hours later, we were on our way back with an empty van. Although exhausted, we talked and laughed with great joy and excitement. The broad smile spreading across the poor people's faces told us that our small act of kindness made a difference to them and I believed some day they would also give others a helping hand if possible.

Text 10.
M: Clara Barton was born on December 25th, 1821. When the Civil War began in 1861, she heard of stories of wounded soldiers. She felt she needed to do something to help them, so she urged people to donate bandages and medicine and delivered these supplies to the battlefield. Clara didn't stop helping when the war was over. She led a group to search for missing soldiers. This group also worked to identify soldiers killed or missing. After four years of this work, Clara moved to Switzerland, where she first learned about a group called the Red Cross. This group worked to help people who were suffering during times of war. In 1873 Clara returned to the United States. In 1881 she started an American branch of the Red Cross. She served as its first president for over 20 years. As the result of Clara's hard work and leadership, the Red Cross grew. Today, it also helps people suffering as a result of earthquakes, fires, floods, and other disasters. Clara Barton died on April 12, 1912, but her great contribution, the American Red Cross, lives on.
