閱讀下列短文,從每題所給的A、B、C和D四個(gè)選項(xiàng)中,選出最佳選項(xiàng)。
A
When I think of the word perfect, I think of something few can achieve, like high beauty standards, Helen, the super-smart girl in my class, or anything I can compare myself to. For weeks, I have been noticing this girl who is in a few of my middle school classes. She has fabulous long dark hair, big eyes, and the most beautiful face. She always wears the prettiest outfits and seems to be the most popular girl in school, at least in my eyes. It seems like she has a perfect life.
One day, I was in language arts talking to my teacher about one of the upcoming tests, when I saw the girl staring at me. I immediately felt nervous, thinking, “Why is she looking at me? Did I do something wrong? Is my hair messed up?” When the class was dismissed and everyone rushed to their next class, Helen caught up to me and said, “I just thought you should know, I think you are really pretty.” I replied doubtfully, “Oh my god, thank you!” I then watched her as she walked away and thought, “She thinks I am pretty?”
The whole day, I thought about one thing: Why does she think that? After thinking about that topic in my head through each second of the day, I came to learn one big lesson. I learned that everyone has their own insecurities even though it may not seem like it on the outside. In this case, I was thinking that she was everything I wanted to be and she thought the same of me. Neither of us are perfect. We are just us and that’s OK. We are all that perfect person we have been comparing ourselves to in our own special way. It is our choice to either accept that and love ourselves or keep torturing (折磨) ourselves with cruel comparisons. When I really look at myself, not from my point of view but a fresh one, I do see everything I want to be. I see a beautiful, smart, kind girl who is unique. I think that being able to fully love yourself is the true meaning of the word perfect.
21. What does the underlined word “fabulous” in paragraph 1 probably mean?
A. Messy. B. Ugly.
C. Wonderful. D. Ordinary.
22. Why did Helen talk to the author after class?
A. She wanted to challenge her.
B. She found her hair messed up.
C. She thought the author was beautiful.
D. She wanted to make friends with her.
23. What lesson did the author learn at last?
A. Practice makes perfect.
B. Everyone is perfect in any aspects.
C. Beauty means perfect sometimes.
D. Full love for yourself just means perfect.

Humans have been living and working on the space station for over 20 years. Their meals are packaged, though sometimes astronauts receive fresh treats from resupply missions. The longer that packaged food is stored, the more it loses nutrients like vitamin C and vitamin K.
Astronauts have successfully grown 10 different crops on the space station since 2015 and had the chance to sample (品嘗) each one. The International Space Station hosted a party for astronauts on Friday as they celebrated the harvest of the first chili peppers (辣椒) grown in space. The crew finally had a chance to taste the peppers after initially kicking off the plant experiment on the space station in July.
Plant Habitat-04 is one of the most complex plant experiments on the orbiting laboratory to date because peppers take much longer to grow than the previous experiment plants. After growing for four months, the peppers were harvested on Friday.
Peppers provide a great source of vitamin C, as well as other key nutrients. Pepper plants self-pollinate (自花授粉), so they are easy to grow, and they are a pick-and-eat crop that doesn’t have to be cooked. They are also safe to eat raw.
A side effect of life in zero gravity is that astronauts often lose some of their taste and smell, so spicy or well-seasoned foods are a favorite. Adding fresh greens or peppers to the menu allows astronauts to liven up their regular meals. But growing and tending to the plants can also produce other benefits.
Astronauts have described the joy from seeing — as well as smelling and caring for — leafy green plants on the space station that remind them of Earth.
“Growing colorful vegetables in space can have long-term benefits for physical and psychological health,” said Matt Romeyn, principal investigator for the experiment. “We are discovering that growing plants and vegetables with colors and smells helps to improve astronauts’ well-being.”
24. What makes Plant Habitat-04 one of the most complex plant experiments?
A. The technology.
B. Growing process.
C. The varieties of plants.
D. Growing time required.
25. Which is the most probable reason for adding peppers to food for astronauts?
A. Peppers are delicious.
B. Peppers can improve memory.
C. Peppers help prevent diseases.
D. Peppers can restore appetite.
26. Which of the following could be the best title for the text?
A. The Fun of Growing Chili Peppers in Space
B. The Agricultural Goal in the Space Mission
C. The First Chili Peppers Grown in Space
D. The Chili Peppers Used in the Space Mission

“We thought dogs would behave like children under age 5, but now we guess that perhaps dogs can understand when someone is dishonest,” says Huber at the University of Vienna in Austria. “Maybe they think, ‘This person has the same knowledge as me, but is giving me the wrong information.’ It’s possible they could see that as intentionally misleading, which is lying.”
Once that trust was established, the team had the dogs witness another person move the food from the first to the second bowl. The communicators were either in the room, and also witnessed the switch, or were briefly absent and so apparently unaware that the food had been switched. In either case, the communicators would later recommend the first bowl, which was now empty.
In previous versions of this experiment with children under age 5, the participants reacted in particular ways. They would typically ignore the communicator who gave honest but misleading advice on where the food was. However, if the communicator had been in the room and witnessed the switch, but still recommended the first (now empty) bowl, young children were actually much more likely to follow the communicator’s knowingly misleading suggestion.
This may be because the children and non-human primates (靈長類) trusted the communicator over the evidence of their own eyes, says Huber.
The dogs in the new experiment, however, weren’t so trusting of lying communicators, much to the researchers’ surprise, says Huber. Half of the dogs would follow the communicator’s misleading advice if the communicator hadn’t witnessed the food switch. But about two-thirds of dogs ignored the communicator who had witnessed the food switch and still recommended the now-empty bowl. These dogs simply went to the bowl filled with food instead. “They did not rely on the communicator anymore,” says Huber.
27. What do Huber’s words in paragraph 1 imply?
A. Dogs won’t believe people any longer.
B. Dogs can be trained to act like children.
C. Dogs can understand everything humans mean.
D. Dogs are a lot cleverer than we thought.
28. What’s the purpose of paragraph 3?
A. To draw a conclusion.
B. To sum up the reason.
C. To make a comparison.
D. To lead in a new experiment.
29. Who would the dogs trust after the food was moved?
A. The one who moved the food.
B. The one who didn’t see the food switch.
C. The one who moved the food and recommended the wrong bowl.
D. The one who saw the food switch and recommended the wrong bowl.
30. What can we conclude from the passage?
A. Dogs can sometimes tell when people are lying.
B. Dogs are cleverer than children under age 5.
C. We can train dogs to find food in different ways.
D. We should be honest like dogs.
During my first year teaching middle school students, I found myself in a bit of a dilemma. When the bell rang, I knew that my class should be orderly and on task. 31 I had an activity on the board for the students to complete. However, no one did it. Instead, they just kept chatting and laughing.
I desperately needed some classroom management strategies that actually worked. 32 She gave me the following idea: When the bell rings, write down the names of everyone who is talking on the board, and tell them if they speak out of turn again they will receive a discipline (紀(jì)律) essay.
I tried it. Wow, it worked! 33 Firstly, watch carefully for the very first person that talks and be sure to give him a warning in the form of his name on the board. Meanwhile, say something like, “Taylor, this is just a warning to you. You are not in trouble at this point, but you will be if you continue talking.”
34 There would still be days when the bell rang and half the class were still talking, but instead of allowing my stress level to rise, I would calmly start writing names. It normally only took three or four names for the class to notice. Then they would quickly quiet down.
If you teach high school, or are just not crazy about this method, look for ways to adjust it. For example, you could give a student a warning by putting a Post-it (便利貼) on their desk. 35 But if you’ve had trouble keeping order in your classroom, I do highly recommend that you try it.
A. But it simply wasn’t.
B. Now let me make an introduction.
C. Eventually, I went to an old teacher.
D. Therefore, I referred to some relevant books.
E. And I felt like a failure in my own classroom.
F. Writing names down may not be a good fit for everyone.
G. This method made the biggest difference at the start of class.

閱讀下面短文,根據(jù)所給情節(jié)進(jìn)行續(xù)寫,使之構(gòu)成一篇完整的短文。
Michelle finished playing her music, then bowed to the stuffed animals on her bed. “There, three times in a row with no mistakes,” she said. “I just hope I can play it that well at the party.” In just an hour she would be playing her first solo (獨(dú)奏), and the thought made her nervous. “You’re lucky because you don’t have to play by yourself in front of everybody,” she said, comforting the spotted fur of Lea, the Leopard. Then, looking at the smiling face of Zoey, the Zebra, Michelle scolded (責(zé)怪), “How can you be so happy at a time like this?”
She looked around the room at the animals that lined her bed. “I wish you could all come with me,” she sighed. She gave them one last glance and went to join her parents in the car.
“Do I have to play at the party?” asked Michelle as she climbed into the car. “Is my favorite first-grader getting nervous?” her dad asked, smiling. Michelle didn’t answer. She was trying to picture what it would be like to play in front of all those people. “You’ll do fine,” said Mom. “The first time is always the hardest.”
When they arrived at the hall, Michelle headed backstage. She handed her violin to her teacher for tuning and walked over to where the curtains parted. Looking out, she could see all the seats were filled, with many more people standing in back. Now she was really nervous.
She took her violin from Mrs. Allen and sat with the other students onstage. She took a deep breath as the curtains started to open and her teacher picked up the microphone to begin the program. One by one the students played their pieces. Finally Michelle heard Mrs. Allen announce, “Our last student tonight will be Michelle Merrick, who will play Bach’s Minuet in G Major.”
Michelle’s heart pounded as she walked toward the front of the stage. She put her violin under her chin and placed the bow (琴弓) on the strings. But she couldn’t remember even her first note.
