In the far corner of the front yard of a large house in Florida rests an RV—Recreational Vehicle( 活動房屋式旅游車), shaded by trees as clothing on a nearby line sways(搖動) in the breeze. In this RV, National Geographic explorer Thomas Culhane lives with his wife, Enas, almost entirely off the grid—a lifestyle without depending on electricity supply.
Culhane began living off the grid in the late 1990s, when he went into the basement of his apartment building in Los Angeles and pulled the plug that delivered electricity. Even earlier though, he was first inspired by sustainable(不破壞生態(tài)平衡的) living during a trip in 1970 to visit his relatives. He was eight years old and worried that his stay in their small village was going to be miserable because his relatives told him they had no air conditioning or electricity— but they had plenty of fresh fruits from orchards (果園) and lots of cold drinks chilled by the icy stream from the ice caps of the nearby mountain. “This is amazing,”says Culhane.
He met Enas when she was living in an ecovillage in Portugal. Enas said she liked the feeling of being low impact, of being harmless to the earth. Culhane was attracted and fell in love with her. The couple got married, living on the same property(財產(chǎn)) that they currently have. They moved into their first home together—an RV which they immediately took completely off-grid.
Inside their RV, Culhane and Enas have hot showers, a working gas stove, a refrigerator, a washing machine and a big screen TV. They use gas created by their on-site biodigesters (生物煮解器) to cook on a gas-powered stove. They also use energy created by the biodigesters to heat their bath water. They feed the biodigesters using their own food waste— at no additional cost to the earth.
Sometimes on weekends, the RV is turned into a classroom. The couple host workshops to let the community members and students know living an off-grid life is getting easier and teach them how to respect and coexist peacefully with the environment.
24. What does the author intend to do in Paragraph 2?
A. Add some background information. B. Summarize the previous paragraph.
C. Provide some advice for the readers. D. Introduce a new topic for discussion.

A. Her marriage property. B. Their common life belief.
C. The beauty of her ecovillage. D. Her experience of exploration.
26. What do the biodigesters produce?
A. Food waste. B. Additional costs. C. Greenhouse gases. D. Alternative(可供選擇的) energy
27. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. An RV Classroom B. Living off the Grid
C. Getting Close to Nature D. Protecting the Environment

Hundreds of new drivers have been given bans (禁令) for using their mobile phones at the wheel, as part of stricter new laws introduced. In March, the punishment for driving while on the phone was doubled to six points — meaning drivers with less than two years’ experience faced a ban.
New laws meant the punishment for being caught on a mobile phone at the wheel was increased to six points. The new rules were introduced in England, Scotland and Wales. Drivers who get six points within two years of passing their test will lose their licence, creating a one-strike rule for mobile phone users. To get back behind the wheel, new drivers have to retake both the theory and practical parts of the driving test.
Mr Williams in the RAC said, “These people have spent hours and hours and hundreds of pounds learning to drive to gain their personal freedom only to throw it all away through this foolish behaviour. The only comfort is that they won’t be drawn into some terrible crashes caused by the distraction (使人分心的事物) of a hand-held mobile phone.”
When the new laws were introduced, Transport Secretary Chris Grayling said they would act as a strong warning to mobile phone users. However, the numbers suggested a total of 15,752 drivers received the punishment of six points for using a mobile phone between March and August. This is an increase from 15, 237 drivers in the same period of last year.
National Police Chiefs’ Council Lead on roads Policing, Chief Constable Anthony Bangham, said the police took the offence (違法行為) seriously. “This is not a small offence and is never a risk worth taking because a moment’s distraction behind the wheel can change lives forever.” “Our message is simple — don’t do it,” he added.
28. What can we infer from Paragraph1?
A. The new laws have not been passed.
B. The new laws are not strict enough.
C. Drivers with less than two years’ experience won’t be affected.
D. Punishment for driving while phoning used to be three points.
29. What will happen if a Welsh citizen who got a licence last year gets six points?
A. He will lose his driving licence. B. He must learn the new rules.
C. He will be fined a lot. D. He will be given a warning.
30. When the new laws were first introduced, _________.
A. traffic accidents were cut down B. there were still many drivers who broke them
C. drivers thought the laws were unfair to them D. fewer people broke them compared with last year
31. What does Anthony Bangham mean?
A. The police didn’t take the new rules seriously. B. The roads policy should be improved for safety.
C. A moment of carelessness may cause big accidents.D. The laws need to be improved a lot and retested.
D
Going to the movie theater is fun. However, in a time when technology has afforded us home video streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu, many people choose to stay at home to have fun. And they believe movie theaters are going to have problems. Though those services might affect the theaters negatively, I don't believe they are going away anytime soon.
I don't doubt that staying at home to watch films can save you money. After all, the tickets for theaters aren't cheap. Besides, you can lie comfortably on a big sofa to watch films. And generally there's no limit on the time when you can watch films. And you don't need to be worried about others anger when you laugh aloud at a fun shot.
But the movie theater has the low lighting, the big screen, the surround sound, etc. War movies especially benefit from being watched in theaters. A good war movie combined with the theater setting can better show the reality of war. Viewers can more closely experience the war. In addition to war movies, action movies and superhero movies are also much better when viewed on the big screen.
And nothing beats gathering together your friends and family and going to see a good movie. However, nowadays many people like to lock themselves at home when they're free. That's why many people end up being lonely, having few friends and suffering from health problems. Therefore, instead of just watching a movie at home and then going to bed, you can hang out with your friends and share your latest news face to face based on going to see a movie.
Anyway, we are lucky enough to live in a time that benefits people who love to go out and those who love to stay at home. Netflix and other services will always be there for those who prefer to stay at home. But going to the theater offers better experience, and it helps theaters create more jobs. It's a win-win. So why not see a cool movie at your local theater?
32. What influence do home video streaming services seem to bring?
A. Theaters will soon disappear. B. Movie theater business gets hurt.
C. Films have become much funnier than before. D. Theaters begin to offer better services to customers.
33. What is Paragraph 2 mainly about?
A. Some theater rules to follow. B. The author's love for staying at home.
C. The advantages of enjoying films at home. D. Several opinions on choosing movie theaters.
34. What can we infer from Paragraph 3?
A. Not all films are attractive to viewers. B. There isn't an increase in films' types.
C. Movie theaters should suit different films. D. Some films are less amazing when watched at home.
35. What is the main purpose of the passage?
A. To persuade us to join outdoor activities as often as possible.
B. To present the advantage of watching films at home.
C. To show us the reasons for the decline of theater.
D. To advise people to go to the theater.
第二節(jié)(共5小題;每小題2分,共10分)

Research shows that playful teasing (laughing at or making jokes about sb.) between parents and their children can be a way to strengthen relationships, bring up difficult topics, and just have fun. 36 Carol Bishop says, “You need to recognize if they are enjoying it,” There are also rules about what is okay and not okay to tease your child about. 37 Instead, tease kids about safe topics, like a messy room, or things that can be easily changed.
Teasing should also be a two-way street. 38 If they go too far making fun of you, be sure not to blow up. Instead, help them to learn boundaries and what may hurt others.
Teasing about a disappointing grade should only be used as a gentle reminder to study or do homework. It shouldn't be focused on the ability because that could make the situation worse. It’s not wrong to say to your child, “I'm disappointed that you got a C. ” 39 You need to examine if there is a learning disability or maybe they are depressed or being bullied.
From monsters under the bed to darkness and noises, fears that may seem silly to an adult may be very real to a child. 40 In fact, it could make them worse. Teasing a child who is frightened about something is not a way for them to expand their horizon—you need to make them feel secure.
A. Kids often feel hurt when teased by others.
B. Topics like appearance and weight are prohibited (not allowed).
C. You have to be willing to let your child tease you about things.
D. But then you must work with them to figure out the cause.
E. But parents need to recognize when teasing becomes hurtful.
F. Laughing or teasing won't help them overcome their fears.
G. Teasing a child about sports performance can cause a child to quit the sport.
