It happened that a dg had sme meat that he wanted t eat at hme. On his way hme he must g acrss a river. While he was crssing it, he lked dwn and saw his shadw in the water.“Just lk!” said he t himself. “That dg dwn there has sme meat, t. If I culd get it away frm him, I wuld really eat well tnight!” With this thught, he made a snap at the ther dg’s meat. And as he did that, his wn meat fell int the water.
S then he had nthing at all. The dg was very upset. Then he lked dwn, he saw that the ther dg in the water had lst his meat, t. “That is as it shuld be!” thught he, “Fr I saw him trying t take my meat away frm me.” What a flish dg he was! He didn’t knw the dg in the water was himself. He lst the meat he had because he was greedy and wanted t get mre. The stry tells us that he wh wants everything will get nthing in the end.
