Architecture is amazing. It has changed the way I lk and interact with the wrld and my envirnment. It has trained me t be hyper-sensitive(過(guò)度敏感) t the built envirnment, t recgnize prblems and find slutins that an untrained eye wuld never ntice.
As much as I lve this prfessin, it is very easy t get lst in architecture. I get s fcused that I have frgtten abut everything else. Luckily my passin fr cycling kept me sane(清醒的) while I was becming an architect. I faced a lt f bstacles and challenges taking a bicycle ride acrss the United States. Lking back, cycling acrss the America was actually ne f the smartest things I ever did.
I have actually bicycled acrss the cntinental USA twice; East t west. Atlantic Ocean t Pacific Ocean, bth times. Bicycling acrss America isn't as hard as yu think.
I rde alne n my first trip in 2005 frm Virginia Beach t the cast f Flrence, Oregn. In the end it was 4,547 miles ver the curse f 77 days.
I left fr the secnd trip in 2007 with my tw best friends frm Bar Harbr, Maine t Prtland, Oregn, which was a 4,886 mile ride ver 90 days. At that time, I fell in lve with the idea f leaving the east cast behind, starting a whle new life and career in a new city. I ended up in Prtland. After arriving in twn n a bike, I eventually fund a jb, a place t live and an amazing dg.
I share all this nt t cnvince anyne t g biking acrss America, but nly t share hw ding this has changed my life. Architecture has given me a wnderful life and career but it isn't everything. Thankfully I have als been very passinate abut: my friends, traveling, bicycles, punk rck, technlgy, the Internet, my dg, and even yga. My architecture backgrund has definitely sweetened my relatinship with all thse things.
Becming an architect is a nble pursuit, but yu shuld keep pursuing everything else that yu are passinate abut. It will enhance yur architecture career and ultimately make yu a mre interesting persn, which in my pinin is really mre imprtant than being anther silly architect.

A human heart is s much mre than an rgan. N ne says they left their pancreas(胰腺) in San Francisc, fr example, r that tw kidneys(腎臟) beat as ne. Yet mst f us believe that tw hearts can beat as ne, and that the heart reveals ur real emtins. Nw there's sme evidence that such flk__wisdm is true.
When peple listen t the same stry—each alne in their wn hme—their heart rates rise and fall tgether, accrding t a new study published last mnth in Cell Reprts. Prfessr Lucas Perra, a senir authr f the study, said, “It's the stry that drives the heart.”
This finding crrespnds with a muntain f research shwing that ur brains synchrnize(同步) when we interact in the same lcatin r participate in the same activity. The new study ges ne step further; it tests whether ur heart rates becme synchrnized while taking in the same narrative—even thugh we're nt in the same rm nr even listening at the same time as ther listeners.
Marcel Prust wrte at the turn f the 20th century, “The heart des nt lie.” Data tells us much the same: The heart's cnnectin t the brain is s tight that when we hear the same stry, ur heart rates synchrnize. Subjects in the same grup prduced synchrnized heart rate patterns that rse and fell at rughly the same times during the narrative.
The results are “heartwarming,” said Prf. Perra. “Heart rate crrelatin(關(guān)聯(lián)) between subjects des nt require them t actually be interacting, r even be in the same place. It's nt the interactin between peple but the stry itself that des the trick.”
The pint, he said, is that when we listen t the same radi prgram r watch a Netflix shw, ur hearts beat tgether, shwing that “we're nt alne”.

D. The same stry can make listeners have the same heart rates.

Star Wars fans wuld be familiar with the gd relatinship between humans and drids(機(jī)器人) in the mvies. In the mvie Sl: AStarWarsStry, LandCalrissian risked his life t rescue his c-pilt, a female drid L3-37. In real life, a humanid rbt, Sphia, has recently been granted(給予) citizenship in Saudi Arabia. Increasingly, peple are ready t see rbts as resembling humans. Given this phenmenn, I believe it is necessary t cnsider giving rbts certain rights humans enjy.
Experts have argued that since rbts have nw acquired human-like qualities, it is apprpriate t cnsider if they shuld have rights just as humans. Sphia has a humanlike face and utilizes artificial intelligence t respnd t speech and express emtins. Fr such a lifelike being that is ptentially capable f expressing emtins, des it nt deserve the right t be lved and respected?
Rbts shuld als be given legal and mral prtectin as harming a rbt may be similar t harming humans. Since peple tend t frm attachments t scial rbts, it becmes pssible fr cmpanies t cntrl the hardware and sftware t explit this emtinal attachment. There is a danger that data that is stred in the rbt culd be upladed t the clud. There wuld then pssibly be situatins in which the gvernment r private sectr retrieves(檢索數(shù)據(jù)) the infrmatin stred in a rbtic ty r scial rbt. With these uncertainties, it is clear why rbts shuld be prtected, just as humans.
An even mre irresistible reasn t grant human rights t the rbts is the prtectin f scietal values. We shuld stp a yung child frm kicking r tearing a ty rbt apart because it resembles a real life. Giving rbts certain rights will ensure that scietal standards are set.
Still, many have rundly argued that n matter hw sphisticated(老練的) they may be, rbts are still machines. It is therefre quite ridiculus t treat them as living beings and grant them rights. Hwever, with the advancement in technlgy, it is a matter f time befre rbts are fully anthrpmrphized(賦予人的特征), and we wuld have t cnsider granting them rights.
In cnclusin, deciding whether rbts deserve human rights is by n means an easy task, but nw is the time t start the cnversatin n this and seriusly cnsider the pssibility.
( )32. Why des the authr mentin the tw examples in the first paragraph?
A. T remind readers f the imprtance f rbts.
B. T discuss the necessity f rescuing rbts.
C. T set readers thinking abut an issue abut rbts.
D. T describe the relatinship between humans and rbts.
( )33. What's the main idea f Paragraph 3?
A. Rbts shuld be legally and mrally prtected.
B. There is pssible infrmatin risk.
C. Humans are ding harm t rbts.
D. Rbts shuld be given mre emtinal attachment.
( )34. What's the authr's attitude twards granting rbts human rights?
A. Dubtful. B. Favrable. C. Negative. D. Uncaring.
( )35. What's the structure f the passage?
(①=Para. 1 ②=Para. 2 ③=Para. 3 ④=Para. 4 ⑤=Para. 5 ⑥=Para. 6)
A. ①—②③④⑤—⑥ B. ①②—③④⑤—⑥
C. ①—②③—④⑤⑥ D. ①—②③④—⑤⑥
