While we knw that language first appeared amng Hm sapiens smewhere thusands f years ag, the secret t hw language evlved is still unknwn, and mainstream theries fall int tw distinctly different camps.
One widely held thery is that language came abut as an evlutinary adaptatin. That was where the idea f natural selectin came int play, which was the belief that the specific physical features f a ppulatin made that ppulatin mre likely t survive its envirnment, like the turtle(海龜)and its shell. On ne hand, humans needed t cmmunicate with each ther in rder t hunt, farm and defend themselves successfully frm the surrunding severe envirnment. Being able t cmmunicate by using language gave the human species a distinct survival advantage. On the ther hand, language was needed fr scial interactin, accrding t thse wh subscribed t the adaptatin thery.
In their paper "Natural Language and Natural Selectin," researchers Steven Pinker and Paul Blm therized that a series f calls r gestures evlved ver time int cmbinatins, giving us cmplex cmmunicatin, r language. As things became mre cmplicated arund them, humans needed a mre cmplex system t cnvey infrmatin t ne anther. Early man saw a grup f deer he wanted t hunt. He made a sund t his hunting partner that means "deer are nearby." One day, a strm came in and the hunter nticed that thunder scared the deer away. As a result, the hunter went hungry until the strm passed. Over time, the same hunter als learned t recgnize the warning signs fr bad weather-dark skies and increased wind. Early man realized that when the sky darkened and the wind picked up, he needed t tell his hunting partner t speed up the pursuit f the deer. Therefre, he came up with a series f sunds that refer t bth the deer and the bad weather. That series f sunds was the beginning f an evlutinary adaptatin that eventually became language.
As humans learned mre abut hw t best survive, they develped a need t cnvey these survival methds t their ppulatin. T be brief, that's the adaptatin thery.

A cheap printed sensr culd transmit wildfire warnings. Wildfires have recently destryed regins acrss the wrld, and their gravity is increasing. The team says its new sensr can be placed near tree trunks' bases and send a wireless signal t a nearby receiver if there is a dramatic temperature increase. That heat als pwers the sensr itself, withut replacing batteries. The team printed the substances nt rdinary paper t create a sensr fr just $ 0.40.
But imprving crdinatin amng the different agencies invlved in firefighting is even mre crucial t address, says Graham Kent, an earthquake expert at the University f Nevada, Ren, wh was nt part f the study. Fire detectin is just step ne."
Wang says his team's next steps are t extend the device's signal range beynd the current 100 meters, which can limit practical use, and t develp a prtective shield fr it. The transmitter's effectiveness, he ntes, will als need t be examined in the field ahead.
