    The new arrangement was a disaster. Exhausted after a day f full wrk, all I wanted was a ht hme-cked meal and a gd night’s sleep. Hwever, what greeted me at the table was a micrwave package. Smetimes he wuld serve atmeal(燕麥)fr several nights in a rw. One night when I dragged myself t bed, I was terrified t discver Je had turned ur white sheets blue. He tld me he had fund ut hw t save n water, sap and electricity. He patted his blue trusers and annunced prudly washing everything tgether was just the secret.
    Ten minutes later, ignring Je s warning, I turned ff the main rute. I thught it hadn’t rained enugh t fld the rad, but as I runded the crner water rushed acrss my path. After a few feet, the car gt stuck. I pened the dr and water pured in. I hurriedly clsed the dr. I culdn’t risk walking in this. Almst 20 minutes passed. The car began t shake. I gt frightened t death when I heard three lng hnks(喇叭聲).

    “Gd nn Mrs. Prudft”. It was Sam, her teenage neighbr. “My! My! Yu lk pale! What happened?” asked Mrs. Prudft with genuine wrry. She immediately waved him in and clsed the dr behind. Mrs. Prudft was a lnely widw, but was well lved in her neighbrhd especially by kids, thugh she had n kids t call her wn.
    Once encuraged, Sam disclsed his dilemma. “My friend Barry lst a rare bk f schl library. It csts 150 dllars, but he has nly 55 dllars and his pr parents can’t affrd t pay the rest. Barry is wrking part time but that’s far frm enugh.” With a dramatic sigh he cntinued, “If he didn’t refund the lss befre the end f term, he will be dismissed frm final exams. That will ruin his future! I have t help him, whatever it takes. He is my best friend.”
    “Dn’t wrry, Sammy. Yu want me t pay…”, but Mrs. Prudft was interrupted. “N, N, Mrs. Prudft. This is nt what I came here fr. I’ll wrk fr yu. Wuld yu favr me t walk yur dg please? Fr 2 dllars a day.” He lked up with begging eyes.
    Mrs. Prudft clapped her hands in agreement, “That can’t be better! I’ve been wrried abut Rland lately. He des need sme exercise! It’s nice f yu t make such an ffer.”
    Sam thanked her ver and ver, “I will start tmrrw mrning.”
